Terms of Service
CooperationEngine Last updated: 24 September 2026
These are the terms for using CooperationEngine ("CE"). CE is run by PD KC, LLC ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using CE, you agree to these terms. They're written to be read, so please read them. Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your information, and it's part of these terms.
1. What CE is, and what it isn't
CE is a place where people find each other. Communities use it to run gatherings and sign up volunteers. Neighbours use it to ask for help and to offer it.
CE doesn't provide the help itself. The people you meet through CE aren't our employees or agents. Communities decide who to welcome, how to run their gatherings, and what they ask of people. We build tools that make care easier to organise and harder to misuse, but we can't promise that every person, gathering, or arrangement will go well.
CE is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger, call 911 (in the US). If you're thinking about suicide or are in emotional crisis, call or text 988. CE may notice that a post sounds like someone is in crisis and show support, but it can't send help to you.
Individuals never pay to use CE. Asking for help, offering help, and joining gatherings are free. Communities may pay us for organiser tools. (See section 9.)
2. Your account
- Sign-in. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your phone or email. Keep access to that phone or inbox. Anyone who can read your codes can sign in as you.
- Be yourself. Give information that's true about you, and don't sign up as someone else. Your preferred name is yours to choose, as long as it follows section 5.
- One person, one account, unless we agree otherwise.
- Accounts an organiser created for you. If an organiser added you from their own list (see our Privacy Policy), that account becomes yours when you sign in. You don't have to use it. If you'd like it removed, write to us. If you never sign in, we remove it twelve months after the gathering it was created for.
- If you lose your phone number, you can recover your account through email. If that isn't possible, a person on our team will review your request. We may say no if we can't be confident the account is yours.
3. Age and young people
- You must be at least 13 years old to hold a CooperationEngine account. We don't knowingly create accounts for people under 13.
- A child under 13 can still take part in a gathering. An organiser can include them on a roster so they're counted and checked in on the day. That entry is managed by the organiser, the child has no login, and CE sends them nothing. A parent or guardian can hold an account and act for them.
- If you're under 18, you can take part in gatherings and communities that welcome young people. Some things wait for a parent or guardian's yes, like your photo being published or promotional messages. Some gatherings may need your guardian's consent before you can join.
- Only your guardian can give guardian consent. Don't tick a box or fill in a form pretending to be them.
- Organisers who invite young people agree to the extra responsibilities in section 4.
If you believe someone under 13 holds an account, write to privacy@cooperationengine.com.
4. If you're an organiser
When you run a community or a gathering on CE, you're responsible for how you use it. You agree that:
- You have a right to the information you bring in. When you import a volunteer or participant list, you're telling CE that the people on it agreed to take part in your gathering, and that you may share their details with us for that purpose. CE will create quiet accounts for them. We rely on your word about that agreement, so only import people who actually signed up with you.
- A welcome you send is yours. After importing a list, you may send the people on it a message confirming they're registered. You write it, you review it, and you send it. It goes out in your gathering's name. Only send it to people who agreed to take part โ sending it to a list you bought, scraped, or collected for something else is a breach of these terms and of the rules your carrier sets for text messages.
- You'll ask only what you need. Forms and join questions should ask for what your community genuinely needs to care for people. Don't use CE to collect sensitive information you don't need. CE blocks some kinds of question.
- You'll keep other people's information inside CE's purpose. Contact details, form answers, member notes, and documents you can see in CE are for running your community and caring for its people. Don't sell them, don't give them to others for marketing, and don't take them somewhere less safe than CE without a good reason.
- Member notes are permanent. Notes you write about a member can't be edited or deleted, and each one shows who wrote it and when. Write them the way you'd want someone to write about you. A member who asks us for a copy of their information may be shown them.
- Messages you send through CE are yours. Group emails to people registered for your gathering must be about that gathering. Promotional messages go only to people who said yes to them, and CE enforces that.
- Young people. If your gathering includes people under 18, you'll use CE's guardian consent tools honestly. Only record that you hold a guardian's signed form if you actually have one. And only publish photos after you've confirmed consent.
- Your own terms. Your community can add its own terms or agreements for members to accept. They add to these terms and can't override them. Where they conflict, these terms win.
- People can leave. Members can step back from a shift or leave your community at any time, and their history stays with them.
If your organisation needs a data processing agreement with us, write to support@cooperationengine.com and we'll provide one.
5. How to treat each other
CE works because people are kind to each other there. Don't use CE to:
- harass, threaten, shame, or demean anyone, or post hateful content about people because of who they are;
- pretend to be someone else, or misrepresent your connection to a community;
- ask for or offer anything illegal;
- collect people's information to contact them outside CE for purposes they didn't agree to;
- send spam, or use CE to advertise things unrelated to the community's purpose;
- charge someone for help that was offered as free through CE;
- try to get around CE's privacy protections (like the general-area rule for addresses), or access accounts, data, or parts of CE you aren't meant to reach;
- interfere with how CE runs, or scrape it.
Swearing is not a violation. Frustration isn't danger, and you don't have to speak politely to ask for help.
Preferred names can't be sexually explicit, contain contact details or links, or harass anyone. Identity words people choose for themselves, including reclaimed ones, are welcome.
6. When something goes wrong
- Automated checks. CE automatically reads new requests for help, and new preferred names, to catch possible crisis and harmful content (see our Privacy Policy). A post that suggests someone is in crisis is never hidden. Content that looks hateful or abusive may be held until a person reviews it.
- People make the decisions. Organisers and CE staff review flags and held content. Nothing is decided about you by a machine alone.
- What we may do. If someone breaks these terms, a community or CE may remove content, pause or suspend a post, remove someone from a community, or suspend or close an account. Where it's safe, we'll tell you what happened and why. We say it plainly, without shaming.
- Tell us. If something on CE worries you, use the report options in the app or write to support@cooperationengine.com.
7. Help arrangements, rides, and gatherings
- You decide who to help, and who helps you. Use your judgement. Meet in a safe place, and trust your instincts.
- CE doesn't check drivers, helpers, or volunteers. A community may run its own checks on its members, but unless you know that it has, assume nobody has checked. CE does not currently verify driver's licences, insurance, or backgrounds.
- Gatherings belong to the communities that run them. The organiser is responsible for the gathering itself: its venue, safety, supervision, and changes. CE helps them tell you about changes.
8. Text messages
By adding your phone number to CE, you agree to receive text messages from CooperationEngine about your sign-in and the things you've signed up for or asked for. These are sign-in codes, reminders, and updates about shifts, gatherings, and help arrangements.
- We don't send marketing texts.
- Message frequency varies depending on what you've joined.
- Message and data rates may apply.
- Reply STOP to stop texts. Reply START to turn them back on. Stopping texts doesn't stop in-app or email updates. You can change those in your settings.
- Reply HELP for help, or contact support@cooperationengine.com.
- Carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
Your mobile number and text-message consent are never shared with third parties for their marketing. See our Privacy Policy.
9. Paid features for communities
Communities may pay for organiser tools under a separate order or plan, which sets its own price, billing, and cancellation terms. CE doesn't process payments between members today. If we add payments, we'll update these terms first.
10. What you post
- It's still yours. You own what you write and upload to CE.
- You give us permission to use it to run CE. That means storing it, showing it to the people it's meant for, translating it (always labelled), and checking it for safety. This permission lasts as long as the content is on CE, and afterwards where it's kept under our Privacy Policy (for example, a form answer or an agreement you accepted).
- Public things are public only when someone chooses it. A thank-you, a showcase, or a published photo appears publicly only because you or a community chose that.
- You're responsible for what you post. Only post things you have the right to share, including other people's photos.
CE's software, design, and name belong to us. You may use CE only as these terms allow.
11. Our promises, and their limits
We work hard to keep CE running and safe. But CE is provided "as is" and "as available".
To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that CE will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that any information in it is accurate. We are not responsible for the conduct of any member, organiser, or community, whether online or in person, or for what happens at a gathering or during a help arrangement.
To the fullest extent the law allows, neither we nor anyone working with us will be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to CE โ whether the claim is based on contract, tort, or anything else, and even if we were told such damages were possible. Our total liability to you for all claims relating to CE in any twelve-month period will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in that period, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).
Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not permit us to limit, including for our own fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.
12. Ending
- You can stop using CE at any time. To close your account, write to privacy@cooperationengine.com (see our Privacy Policy for what happens to your information).
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts others at risk. Where it's safe, we'll tell you.
- If CE itself ever shuts down, we'll give at least 30 days' notice and a way to get your information before it goes.
13. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll post the new version with a new date and tell members in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using CE after that, the new terms apply.
14. The legal part
- Governing law: these terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules.
- Where disputes are heard: the state and federal courts located in Travis County, Texas. You and we each consent to the jurisdiction of those courts.
- No forced arbitration. We don't require you to give up your right to go to court, and we don't waive your right to join with others in a class action. We'd rather sort a problem out by talking to you first โ write to support@cooperationengine.com and we'll try.
- If part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- These terms and our Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about CE, alongside any separate order a community signs with us.
